Upcoming Events

This is probably our busiest time of the year–chock full of planting activity on the farm, the opening of the farmers’ markets, and the beginning of our new CSA season to name a few. There are plenty of fun events, too. Here are a few events we are doing that might interest you too…

3rd Monday Open Meeting April 15th

You might be aware that we are forming an Agrarian Intentional Community at Granite Springs Farm. We have an open meeting each month on the 3rd Monday–the next one being tomorrow, April 15th. This one, like most, opens with a potluck at 6:30 pm. There are details on The Community page. Join us if you are able.

Food & Faith at Church of the Holy Family in Chapel Hill April 17 & 24

Church of the Holy Family (Episcopal) in Chapel Hill (and many of the members there) have been great supporters of Granite Springs Farm and our CSA. On Wednesday the 17th, Meredith will be speaking about our current food system, the new agrarian movement, and how her faith shapes her work as a farmer. The evening opens with a potluck at 5:45 followed by the program from 6:30 until 7:30. People of all faiths are invited to attend. On the 24th, there will be a potluck at 5:45 followed by a session led by Dr. Norman Wirzba, Professor of Theology, Ecology and Rural Life at Duke University. Dr. Wirzba is one of the leading voices in the agrarian movement and has lots to say about the intersection of faith and food. The church is located at 200 Hayes Rd. in Chapel Hill.

Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance April 18-21

Shakori Hills Festival is literally right around the corner from GSF (we can hear the music in our gardens) and we love that. Once again, we’ll be donating our ‘Ol Blue Ford tractor to the festival for the weekend. Several of us connected with the farm will be volunteering as tractor drivers to ferry the festival goers and their gear to the camping areas. It’s a great way to meet and greet people and welcome them to our wonderful county. The music, food, dancing, art and fellowship are top notch. The festival goers, who are all ages, are friendly and peaceful and happy to be spending a weekend in the country. Music of all genres. (I’m most excited about the return of Oliver Mtukudzi for two shows)! Come on out, if you can. Here’s a link for more info: http://shakorihillsgrassroots.org/

18th Annual Carolina Farm Stewardship Piedmont Farm Tour April 27 & 28

GSF is on the farm tour for the first time this year and we’re very excited. This is a fun event for all ages and a chance to meet your farmers and see their farms. We hope some of you can come visit us. All of the details are here: http://www.carolinafarmstewards.org/pft/

Great stuff happening this Spring. Join us!
