This workshop will cover the NC DENR Waste Management “compost guidance” and the basics of composting. There will also be a hands-on composting demonstration.
The NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Division of Waste Management has recently approved guidance for composting at urban farms/community gardens (UF/CG) across North Carolina. This will allow UF/CGs to take in nitrogenous (food waste and manure) from off site, up to 1 cubic yard per week (about 1000 lbs) to be composted for soil amendment without a permit. To make sure you are not spreading human and plant pathogens, composting must be done correctly!
Come early for a Potluck Dinner starting at 5:30pm! People who wish to hear about Granite Springs Farm Community are invited to enjoy the Potluck and stay for the conversation about the community at 6:30pm (with no registration required); or, register for the composting event, and then join the conversation about the Agrarian Community at 8pm when the event is concluded.
To register, please email Brian Rosa at brian.rosa@ncdenr.gov.
